Updated: Mar 19, 2021

DSA’s highest national priority through May Day is to pass the PRO Act through Congress and send it to President Joe Biden's desk where it will likely become law. Join NIDSA for a virtual forum on April 11, 2021 at 7:00 PM as labor leaders from our region discuss the importance of the PRO Act and how we can organize locally to fight for working class power.

To join the meeting on Zoom, please register using the link here.

Speakers during the NIDSA PRO Act Forum include:

  • Charlie Laskonis: IBEW State Organizing Coordinator as well as the Chair of the Winnebago County Democrats. Member of IBEW 364 where he worked as an electrician.

  • Sara Dorner: Staff Rep for AFSCME Council 31 and President of Rockford United Labor. Trained as an RN, she was an activist and 10 year member of the Association of Flight Attendants where Sara Nelson (President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA) was one of her mentors.

  • Rosemary Feurer: Associate Professor of Labor History at NIU and one of the key organizers of the United Faculty Association, the AFT local union at the University.

What exactly is the PRO Act?

The PRO Act (Protect the Right to Organize) is legislation that would strengthen unions, make it easier for workers to organize on the job, outlaw union busting practices utilized by employers, eliminate Right To Work laws, legalize secondary strikes, and build our collective capacity to win a just transition to a green economy through the Green New Deal.
